Say goodbye to razors and unwanted hair! New Concepts Med Spa offers several options for hair reduction and removal. If you are unsure what method may be best for you, please call to schedule a free consultation so one of our aestheticians can take a look at your hair and recommend a treatment program.
Laser Hair Reduction
Commonly called Laser Hair Reduction, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is used to destroy the hair follicle. The light pulse given off by the IPL is attracted to the dark pigment at the root of each hair. The pigment absorbs the heat generated by the IPL, thus destroying the follicle. FDA approved for permanent hair reduction, our technology is safe and effective on most skin types.
The most common desire is the removal of unwanted hair; however, some want resolution of skin issues caused by ingrown hair. Based on your individual needs, we will choose the appropriate laser and best treatment plan that will produce the most desirable results.
The laser is not only for bikini lines, back hair, and other unwanted hair, but also facial hair due to PCOS, other hormone disorders, and peri-anal areas for pilonidal cyst treatment.
Clients typically find that they need four to six treatments to remove the maximum amount of hair and most report seeing a drastic reduction in the amount of hair and a finer textured hair after only two treatments. Depending on your hair growth, you may find that one or two touch-ups per year are necessary.
You may experience some minor discomfort during the procedure; imagine a small rubber band being snapped against your skin, but there is no downtime after the treatment and you can return to normal activities immediately. Better yet, unlike waxing, ingrown hairs are unlikely and you can shave between sessions if needed. We only ask that you do not wax within the two weeks prior to your Laser Hair Reduction appointment.
At New Concepts Med Spa we strive to make your waxing experience as pleasant as possible. Our waxing protocols promote gentle removal of unwanted hair, soothing your skin after each session and your hygienic safety.
Waxing lasts approximately three to six weeks. We offer products to help with the main issues related to hair growth/removal – numbing cream for sensitive skin and a topical solution for ingrown hairs. Just about any body or facial area is suitable for waxing for men or women. Feel free to call with specific questions.
Waxing leaves the skin soft, smooth and rejuvenated because it also removes a layer of dead cells from the surface of the skin, and thus, indirectly serves the function of exfoliating the skin as well. After repeated sessions of waxing, you will notice a much sparser hair growth, and hair growth may even stop eventually. In contrast, shaving stimulates hair growth, because it removes hair at the surface only, not at the root.
We use a combination of soft and hard waxes. All are Azulene infused wax, which is gentle on the skin. Please note that hair must be at least 1/4 inch long to be waxed, this is generally 10 days of regrowth for most people.
Remember to exfoliate using a loofah or body scrub 24 hours before body waxing appointments. Waxing removes hair from the root, so it takes a longer time for hair to grow again- anywhere from 3-6 weeks, depending on the individual speed of hair growth.
Helpful Hint: Please do not wax if you are currently using Retin A or taking the Rx Accutane, you have had recent use of ultra violet tanning beds, or you have had recent microdermabrasion and or chemical peel treatments.
These services dramatically change and thin the protective barrier of your skin. Waxing services would be too aggressive and may cause your skin to lift, possibly causing unsightly scarring.
Electrolysis permanently removes hair, follicle by follicle. Treatments are done by inserting a needle into the hair follicle. An electrical current is then applied to the needle, destroying the follicle. When professionally performed, electrolysis results are comparable to those of laser hair removal, and may offer even more permanent results for people who are otherwise not a candidate for laser hair removal (i.e. people with extremely dark skin, or someone with red, blonde or gray hair).
Since the treatment is done follicle by follicle, multiple sessions may be necessary, especially if treating a larger area. With this in mind, electrolysis is generally not recommended for large areas like the legs, bikini, or back, for example. The most effective areas for electrolysis treatment are usually facial areas like the upper lip, chin, and cheeks.
